Yardley Real Estate & Information

The borough of Yardley is located in the lush green valleys and beautiful rolling countryside of the Township of Lower Makefield in Bucks County, Pa. The scenic Delaware River runs along the eastern border of theYardley real estate area, with the Delaware Canal bisecting the town from northwest to southeast.

According to the United States census of 2010, Yardley was home to approximately 2,430 people.  Lower Makefield township had 32,559 not including Yardley Borough, and it ranked #1 in Pennsylvania for both median household and median family income (for places with a population over 10,000)

Although Yardley itself is a relatively small community, it is only a little less than 33 miles northeast of the sprawling metropolis of Philadelphia. It is also only about nine miles northwest of the capital city of New Jersey, Trenton, a city of nearly 85,000 people. Yardley is part of the Greater New York City Combined Statistical Area.

What this essentially means when buying a home Yardley is that residents can enjoy all of the peace and serenity of life in a small town, while also having the cultural, retail and dining options of a large city just a short drive away.

Shopping and Dining
The fact that Yardley is so close to two major metropolitan areas – Philadelphia and Trenton, N.J. – has its definite advantages. Perhaps it is the shopping and dining part of life that is the most influenced by this fortuitous location.

Most of the towns in the U.S. that are similar in population to Yardley have far more limited options when it comes to night life, retailers, restaurants, and other cultural opportunities, such as art galleries, movie theatres and museums.

Afton Lake - Yardley, PAFor those who would rather avoid the city altogether, there are a number of shopping and dining choices in Yardley itself and some of the other relatively small communities in Bucks County. Grab some local grub at the Yardley Inn, situated right on the Delaware River and the Continental Tavern right in the borough.  If you want Greek food, you can visit Canal Street Grill and overlook the canal.

For your shopping needs and desires the Oxford Valley Mall is located in Langhome, Neshaminy Mall and Quakerbridge Mall, located in Quakerbridge, NJ.  On the Route 1 corridor, there is a Target, Kohl's nearby and many chain eateries like:  Fridays, Pizzeria Uno and Chili's.

Parks and Recreation
There are more than 60 parks located in Bucks County, Pa., six of which are commonwealth-owned and five of which are under the care and operating facilities of the Pennsylvania Bureau of State Parks, which itself is a division of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR).

The Bucks County Department of Parks and Recreation is a governing body tasked with overseeing all of the acquisitions, developments and proposed developments of the county’s parks and recreation facilities, along with preserving its regional parks and open spaces.

Yardley’s residents have six nature centers from which to choose when it comes to satisfying their hiking, birdwatching, critter spotting, deer tracking, foliage frolicking and many other outdoor activity needs.

In summertime, it’s a favorite local pastime to swim and sun at one of the state and county managed municipal pools. Yardley folks have about a dozen of these refreshing, life guarded swimmin’ holes near them.

Living
A must-see spot for all visitors and residents of Yardley is located a few miles in the Washington Crossing Historic Park. This 500-acre stretch of gorgeous parkland is near the village of Washington Crossing and marks the historic spot where, during the Revolutionary War, George Washington crossed the Delaware River.

Afton Library - Yardley, PAThe good people in Yardley can take advantage of the many fine offerings from the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. This non-profit, volunteer-run organization provides an outlet for local artisans to sell their wares, such as ceramics and mosaics, paintings and photographs, and wood and metalwork.

Even though much of the surrounding countryside is being developed into subdivisions, strip malls and fast food joints, Yardley has managed to retain a great deal of its historic charm and agricultural roots. Beating strong and healthy at the heart of Yardley is its delightful historic district. Rising above the streets and boulevards in downtown Yardley are about 200 historically significant structures, many of which are single-family homes that can trace their construction to the nineteenth century.

A stroll through Yardley’s historic district will also reveal a number of churches, canal bridges and Lake Afton, a man made mill pond.
